BIG RIDE: Couple from Abbots Langley ‘ride the isle’ to raise funds for ‘amazing’ goddaughter

Published on: 31st May 2024   |   By: Annabel Stock   |   Category: Uncategorized

A couple from Abbots Langley recently cycled around the Isle of Wight to raise funds for their young goddaughter.

On April 27, Becky and Ross Hateley, along with five of their friends, cycled 105km around the island in just one day. Ross runs Japex Automative, a family-run garage in Kings Langley.

The group has so far raised more than £5,100 for the couple’s seven-year-old goddaughter, Emilia, who was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive tumour, known as diffuse midline glioma, in June last year.

Emilia underwent two emergency surgeries and six weeks of gruelling chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Speaking to ABBOTSnews, Becky said: “Emilia has been amazing and so strong throughout all the treatment. She is very unwell now and needs 24/7 care. Her parents have not been able to work for the past year because they have been looking after her round the clock, as well as her brother.

“We wanted to try to do something to help support her and her family financially.”
