A Croxley resident has described the decision to hike parish council tax as “extremely bad management” during the cost-of-living crisis.
Parish council tax is to rise by 39 per cent in 2026.
Resident Brian Thomas said: “What is going on at Croxley Green Parish Council (CGPC)?
“They are charging a 40 per cent increase in tax and at a time when the cost-of-living crisis is only going to get worse.”
Brian complained the parish council’s “spending over the last three years has risen 44 per cent when the cost of living has only risen 13 per cent”.
He added: “That money is to be used to strengthen services in the village to cope with the expanded population. Can we trust them to spend this money wisely?”
A CGPC spokesperson said: “Since the pandemic, inflation has remained at around four per cent with a peak of over nine per cent in 2022, meaning the cost of most purchases has risen.”
The spokesperson added that the decision to hike the parish council precept was not take lightly, and would “hugely contribute to the quality of life and wellbeing of residents”.
