Police are appealing for witnesses and information following an incident of sexual assault by touching which occurred in St Albans. The incident occurred on Tuesday, July 21, at 7.40am. The victim, a woman in her 20s, was walking along Lemsford Road towards the train station and as she walked past an alleyway, which leads to York Road, a man approached her from behind and touched her inappropriately. He then ran off towards York Road. The suspect is described as a white man, possibly in his 20s, 6ft tall with brown collar length hair length curly hair. He was wearing a cream/light coloured baseball cap, black t-shirt and black jogging bottoms which had elasticated ankles, and light coloured trainers. PC Mark Smith is investigating and said: “This road would have been relatively busy at this time and I would appeal to anyone who was in the area that morning and saw the man described, or saw what happened to please contact police with information.” Anyone with information should please contact PC Smith via the Herts Police non-emergency number 101 quoting crime reference number F1/15/2573. Alternatively contact the independent crime-fighting charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or through their Anonymous Online Form at www.crimestoppers-uk.org. No personal details are taken, information cannot be traced or recorded and you will not go to court.
