Acclaimed author goes back to school

Published on: 20th October 2017   |   By: The Newsdesk   |   Category:

Staff and pupils at a girls’ school in Northwood welcomed an internationally acclaimed poet and author on World Book Day earlier this month.

Ash Dickinson visited Northwood College for Girls on March 5 to celebrate World Book Day and he put the girls’ creative writing skills to the test with a series of poetry workshops. Ash said: I have been reading my work to give the girls a flavour of the poetry that I write and, given that it was World Book Day, I thought it would be apt to read other authors’ work too – which is something I hardly ever do! “I then went on to encourage the girls to write their own poems using whatever inspiration comes to mind.  They showed great enthusiasm to get stuck in and read out their poetry in front of their friends, which takes a lot of courage and self-belief. “At this age there is such as richness to mine, in terms of creative expression. Some of the girls are experienced in poetry writing but it is always great to see those who haven’t tried it before get into the spirit of the art.” For more on this story, please read the next edition of My Northwood & Moor Park News on March 20.
