Abbots detective finishes fourth in Ms Galaxy UK

A detective constable from Abbots Langley who represented Hertfordshire in the Ms Galaxy UK finals has finished in the top five.

Nicola Tompkins, 29, is a promoter of body positivity and mental health due to her long battle with anxiety.

Nicola’s voluptuous figure and optimistic attitude helped her win fourth spot in the competition which are described as beauty pageants for all ages.

She said: “To make the final was an absolute honour, it was brilliant and shows that being naturally curvy is no obstacle to doing well in this competition.”

Four weeks before the final, Nicola fell over and broke her foot, causing her to reconsider holding a sponsored charity event that she couldn’t take part in.

This was in addition to her Ms Galaxy UK efforts.

Nicola’s chosen charities were Mind Hertfordshire Network, a local charity and The Christie Trust, a national charity.

Nicola said: “It was all very touch and go, I didn’t know whether I’d be able to go to Ms Galaxy UK at all. So, instead of a planned 24-hour spinathon, I held a charity raffle.

“Warner Brothers donated Harry Potter tickets, ASOS donated two boxes of goodies, and we were also given tickets for Ladies Day at Ascot, a Ferrari track day and a flower subscription.”

She added: “Overall we raised £804, which I was extremely chuffed with.”

Nicola also held a wellness walk in Cassiobury Park in Watford that was also for both charities.

She added: “The whole Miss Galaxy UK experience was amazing, and it was great to meet so many inspirational women with important messages and so much drive.”
