‘The News doesn’t take a Holiday’

Published on: 19th December 2014   |   By: Nik Allen

So Christmas is just around the corner.

For a lot of businesses it’s the most important trading time of the year. The run up to December 25th and the subsequent New Year sales can literally make or break some enterprises.

Other businesses close from December 19th to January 5th. The Christmas break is just that – a well earned rest after 12 months of grafting.

For us at My News it’s more a matter of getting all the magazines sent to the printers before our Christmas deadlines.

Then two days off on the 25th and 26th and straight back to it between the period up to New Year’s Eve.

The offices are usually quieter during this period. The phones don’t ring that often. Email traffic slows down considerably.

This all goes to make this a great time to plan, organise and get fully prepared for 2015.

The New Year promises to be our busiest ever. We’ve four new magazines launching, moving into bigger offices and some other exciting opportunities we are looking at.

We used to shut down over Christmas until one of our senior reporters made a great point. “The news doesn’t take a holiday.”

This was highlighted on Boxing Day 2011 when a reporters was working and received a call about a murder which had happened in Borehamwood.

Social media was rife with gossip and rumour and because we had a journalist working on it we were able to get the facts quickly and keep the worried community informed.

Even over Christmas Day and Boxing Day we will have one reporter on call who will be keeping an eye on any local breaking news.

However, it’s not all work, work, work at My News. The team has had not one but two Christmas parties. They’ve earned it.

This will be the last blog before December 25th so I’d like to wish all of our readers, advertisers and contributors a happy, healthy and peaceful Christmas.

Thanks for reading.

Nik
