A Berkhamsted football club recently held a football tournament which brought together more than 200 teams from three counties.
On June 10 and 11, Berkhamsted Raiders held their annual summer tournament for the girls and boys teams and their guests from around the local area. It was a festival of football over two days held at the excellent facilities of Ashlyns School, Berkhamsted.
There were over 200 teams from right across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire taking part. It was a fantastic occasion, a real celebration of youth football. Teams came from as far as Hitchin and Milton Keynes to compete in 6-a-side competitions right across the age groups from under-8s right up to under-16s.
The special guest on the Saturday was Berkhamsted’s MP Gagan Mohindra MP who met parents and players, as well as attending the awards ceremony to hand out trophies and medals to the winners of each age group.
Raiders Chairman Chris Armond said: “A huge thank you to everyone who volunteered to help. Making the tournament a success over the weekend relies on a lot of hard work – from getting everything set up the day before, to the parking marshals, the gate stewards, the scorers in the tent, who have to deal with a lot of inquisitive managers, and finally the take-down crew!”
As we approach the Women’s EUROs in July the club expects increased interest in female football so are running taster sessions in the summer and have space for girls to join the country’s biggest girls football club. For enquiries visit www.berkhamstedraiders.com
