BEHIND BARS: Croxley pensioner jailed for over nine years for sexually abusing a girl in the 1990s

A pensioner from Croxley Green was jailed for nine and a half years today (Thursday, January 14) for sexually abusing a girl in the 1990s.

Roger Bluff, 75, was convicted last month of one offence of rape and seven of indecent assault by a jury at St Albans Crown Court.

The offences took place between 1992 and 1994 when the victim was aged between 9 and 10. She reported the offences to Hertfordshire police in 2018.

Judge Stephen Warner told Bluff, a married man of Owens Way, Croxley Green: “This was systematic abuse over a two-year period of a young vulnerable victim for your own gratification.

“The personal statement of victim deals with the lasting effect it has had on many aspects of her life. You obliged her to give evidence and relive her experience at your hands.”

Defending, Oliver Renton said Bluff had lived a law-abiding life and played a role in charitable and community work. He said he suffers from poor health, which will make a prison sentence more onerous.

Bluff will have to serve two thirds of the sentence before he can been considered for parole. He must register as a sex offender indefinitely.
