Green Party candidate ‘will oppose HS2’

The Green Party candidate for South West Hertfordshire, Tom Pashby, has plans to oppose HS2 if they are elected.

Speaking exclusively to MyLocalNews about what they’ll do for South West Hertfordshire, Tom said: “South West Hertfordshire voted narrowly for remain in the referendum. Some are trying to frame this election as being the ‘Brexit election’.

Greens will work to deliver a vote on the Brexit deal versus remain and will campaign to remain.

“I am concerned that we only have until 2030 to reshape our economy into one which won’t drive us to climate catastrophe, so this election needs to be the climate election instead.

“Specifically, for the constituency, I will oppose HS2, push for more appropriately placed homes and restore investment in public services.”

In the 2017 General Election, Green Party candidate, Paul De Hoest, only received a disappointing 1,576 votes, which was a 1.9 per cent decrease compared to the 2015 General Elections.

When asked about pushing the gap between votes in comparison to the previous elections, Tom said: “The incumbent MP’s expulsion from the Conservative party gives everyone a chance to think again about who they want to represent them.

“With the climate emergency at the forefront of many people’s minds, I think we have a good opportunity here to raise a loud green voice.

“I think it would be a shock to everyone if I did win, but everyone will face the same choice at the ballot box. If everyone votes for what they really want, they should get that.

“We do need to move to proportional representation and away from First-Past-The-Post.”
