Watford Water Polo teams thriving

Published on: 1st July 2019   |   By: Jake Levison   |   Category: Uncategorized

It’s an immense time for Watford Water Polo as their teams and players continue to perform on all fronts.

Their first team goalie, Peter Pickford, was selected to represent the GB World University Games squad for the 30th Summer Games, held in Naples between July 3 to 14.

It was the second time Peter had represented GB at the University games having made the squad for the 2017 games held in Taipei.

The men’s first team as a whole have been on top form recently – they won a thriller at Woodside on June 6, beating London Otter 13-12, a result which moved them to top of the London League Premier Division after four games played – though they now sit in second, only a point behind Sutton & Cheam.

The men’s second team are undefeated in the Men’s Divison 1 Summer League, winning three and drawing one to stay top with 11 points.

Watford Ladies are also on the top of their game, and subsequently at the top of Division 2 of the Ladies Summer League with just one game to go. They’ve lost just one game out of five and won three.

The Under 13s team are making bigger splashes than anyone this summer, winning five out of five games and sitting top of the league, nine points clear of second place.

The Under 17 and Under 19 boys had respectable campaigns at the National Age Group Championships last month, with the formers winning Bronze and the latter finishing fourth place.

The Under 15s went second in Division 1 with just one more round of matches to go.

At the time of going to print, they’re just five points and one game behind Latymer and are hoping to win the title.
