Strong support for Hemel Town Star

Published on: 12th April 2019   |   By: News Bulletin   |   Category: Hemel Hempstead Town F.C

There has been an outpouring of support for Hemel Hempstead Town FC player Spencer McCall after he was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer recently.

After struggling with injury since the end of last season, Spencer McCall was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma and is currently undergoing a course of chemotherapy.

Spencer is 24 years old and has been with the club since signing from Wingate & Finchley in October 2017.

A statement on Hemel Town’s website said all at Vauxhall Road will be supporting Spencer and his family.

It read: “It is blatantly obvious to anyone that has met Spencer what a great lad he is. Spencer is tackling this with the same determination he shows on the football pitch, head on and with everything he has got. The club are going to be holding fundraising events in order to raise funds for Spencer so please keep an eye open for news on the club website and social media outlets.

“All of our thoughts and best wishes go out to Spencer and his family at this time, we look forward to seeing him back at Vauxhall Road in better health soon.”

A walk in aid of Spencer is set to take place on Bank Holiday Monday, April 22.

It gets underway at 10am at Vicarage Road, the home of Watford FC and is due to arrive at Vauxhall Road at 2pm. Refreshment and toilet stops are planned along the way.

No sponsorship forms will be available for this event.

Instead donations to Spencer’s JustGiving page are being welcomed. Anyone completing the entire route on Bank Holiday Monday will gain entry to Hemel Town’s game with Weston Super-Mare for £5 and all of this money will go to Spencer.

Spencer’s girlfriend and Hemel Town are hoping to raise £10,000 to support Spencer in his battle against cancer.
