Silva reflects on disappointing December

Published on: 10th January 2018   |   By: Jason Allen   |   Category: Watford FC

Watford manager Marco Silva has urged his players to look forward and keep going after the Golden Boys suffered a disappointing December picking up just five out of 21 points available.

Silva was speaking after Watford’s home loss against Swansea City. Watford led for much of the game but conceded twice in the last five minutes. Silva said he does not want his players to dwell on the past.

He commented: “We need to look forward and keep going. All of us are disappointed in this moment but we only have one way. To start to prepare the next game is our way, is the only way. We have to do something different, keep working hard and take the points for us. We want more, everybody wants more and everybody wants to win every match.

“That is our goal and how I prepare our players as well. At this level it is not easy for us but it is our intention to do that, to complete all the match and try to win. Of course we are in a position in the table. It’s important for us to stay there, work hard and take more points for us.”

Meanwhile right back Daryl Janmaat says Watford need to remain realistic in their aims for the season. Janmaat seems to have established himself in the team after a recent clutch of appearances.

He said: “We are 10th now and if we finish in this position it’s a great season for us. We can stay in this half of the table. First of all course we don’t want get relegated and from then we want to finish as high as possible. That’s our target.”

Watford began 2018 with a 3-1 defeat at the hands of champions elect Manchester City. Raheem Sterling opened the scoring after just 38 seconds with Andre Gray netting a late consolation.
