Oliver Dowden, Member of Parliament for Hertsmere, has been re-elected as the Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for British Jews at the group’s annual meeting. The All Party Parliamentary Group on British Jews aims to broaden and deepen connections between Parliament and the UK Jewish community. This will be Mr Dowden’s second year in the post and speaking afterwards he said: ‘I was honoured and delighted to be re-elected as Chair of the APPG for British Jews. ‘Over the last year I have robustly stood up for the interests of the Jewish community. I have been vocal in opposing prejudice, anti-Semitism and anti-Israeli sentiment. This has included interventions at Prime Minister’s Questions, Foreign and Home Office Questions, as well as lobbying ministers from the Prime Minister down on issues such as UN Security Council Resolution 2334 and the misdirection of British foreign aid. ‘I was also proud to help the work of the Holocaust Educational Trust, including hosting local Holocaust survivors from my constituency in Parliament. As that generation begins to pass away, it’s important that we never forget the lessons of history.’ ‘Locally I’ve given my support to our outstanding Jewish faith school, Yavneh College, and was pleased to have been able to help them secure their new primary school.’ ‘I will continue to use my position as in the APPG to be a strong voice for the Jewish community in Parliament and this is in addition to my role as an Officer of the Conservative Friends of Israel.’ The All Party Parliamentary Group for British Jews aims to broaden and deepen connections between Parliament and the UK Jewish community.
