26 YEARS: Man jailed after attempting to behead Chalfont St Giles resident

A 21-year-old man will serve nearly 30 years in prison after trying to behead a Chalfont St Giles resident.

On July 23 this year, Daniel Macintosh, 21, of Berberis Walk, West Drayton, was offered work at a property in Albion Crescent.

As the work would take two days, the victim, a man in his 60s, offered Macintosh a room to stay for the night.

At around 11.30pm, the victim woke to a sharp, stabbing pain in his neck and found he was heavily bleeding.

Stood at the end of his bed holding a bread knife was Macintosh.

Macintosh fled the scene and discarded the knife outside a nearby property. He then knocked on a number of nearby houses claiming he was being chased by people with a knife who were trying to rob him.

A member of the public allowed him into their house and the police were called.

Macintosh was swiftly arrested and charged the following day.

The victim sustained significant neck injuries and remained in hospital for a few days to undergo surgery to repair the damage to his neck.

At a hearing at Aylesbury Crown Court, Macintosh pleaded guilty to one count each of attempted murder and possession of a bladed article.

Last month, he was sentenced to 26 years in prison and an indefinite restraining order in relation to the victim.

Senior Investigating Officer DI Dominique Muldoon said: “This was a completely unprovoked attack on a vulnerable victim who had displayed nothing but kindness towards Daniel Macintosh in the short time he had spent with him.

“I am pleased that Macintosh has been given an extended sentence for 26 years; the length of this sentence reflects the seriousness and dangerousness of his actions.

“I would like to praise the bravery of the victim who has shown tremendous courage throughout this case.”

“It is important that the public helps us in our fight against serious violence and knife crime and by reporting to us you could help save a life.

“If you are worried that someone you know is using violence or is carrying a knife, please report it. We can then take the necessary steps to safeguard them and identify those responsible.

“You can make a report by going to our website or calling 101, or by contacting Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
