Results for a public consultation on the proposal to extend 20mph zones in Berkhamsted have been released.
More than 84 per cent of Berkhamsted residents supported the new scheme that will cover the area to the south of the high street and including Charles Street and Cross Oak Road.
Since his election two years ago, Berkhamsted County Councillor Nigel Taylor said that a recurrent issue raised by residents has been “traffic calming”.
He said: “Berkhamsted is a 19th Century market town. Many houses rely on street parking. This makes driving difficult, so we are trying to get people to drive with a little more respect for residents there.
“Along with the Town Council, we have been working gradually to get all drivers to slow down, including introducing two new Speed Indicator Devices to tell drivers how fast they are going. I am now looking to introduce other measures for how we can calm things down in other places.”
Hertfordshire Highways have agreed to proceed to the next stage, a legal Traffic Regulation Order, with hopes this could be in place by the summer.
