Published on: 17th November 2025   |   By: Naomi Greenaway   |   Category: Uncategorized

Last month marked a beautiful celebration of the festival of lights, otherwise known as Diwali, and a group of women from Watford performed a new dance and theatre show to mark the occasion.

Maya: The Dance of Shadows took place at Watersmeet in Rickmansworth on Saturday, October 25, and invited visitors and residents alike to join in with the celebrations.

The story of Maya follows a young girl who faces love and betrayal in the search for her destiny.  The performance combined Indian classical and contemporary dance with Bollywood music and bright visuals.

Speaking to Watford News before the show, director Shemanti Chatterjee said: “Maya means a lot to all of us. It is a celebration of our culture and the strength of the women who made it happen.

“Everyone involved has put their heart into this show. We hope the audience enjoys the dance and learns more about the rich stories behind it.

“It has been a wonderful experience to bring this ancient tale to life here in Watford.”
