A young actress from The Royal Masonic School for Girls (RMS) in Rickmansworth has taken her first steps to a career on the stage.
Year 10 student Salma has been offered a place at the prestigious National Youth Theatre (NYT), following an intense audition process with over 6,000 applicants.
Salma has already shown her skills on the stage, featuring in RMS productions of The Little Mermaid and SIX: The Musical.
The application process involved Salma sending a video to NYT performing a monologue and answering a series of questions. She was then invited to recalls where she performed a second piece and a song on a live call with an auditioner. Then, it was a waiting game.
The young actress said: “When I was offered a place, I think I screamed loud enough for all the boarding houses to hear. It was really emotional. It’s hard to believe I’ve been offered such an amazing, unreal opportunity.”
NYT has a star-studded line up of alumni, including Daniel Craig, Kate Winslet CBE, Dame Helen Mirren and Colin Firth CBE.
Salma continued: “Getting into NYT means being introduced to a whole new community I’ve only dreamed of having.
“It means I can show my family and people I love how hard I’m ready to work to achieve my goals, so this really means the world to me.”
