U-TURN: Free parking to return to Kings Langley High Street

Published on: 25th August 2025   |   By: Ellie Rose   |   Category: Uncategorized

Residents will once again be able to park for free on Kings Langley High Street, as councillor Sally Symington announces a major U-turn.

In the April edition of Kings News, we reported that changes to parking charges on the High Street came into effect from Monday, March 31, despite fierce objections from residents.

Charges were payable from 8am to 6pm seven days a week, with the bays between Langley Hill and Vicarage Lane costing 80p for 30 minutes and £1.50 for an hour, with no return within two hours.

However, on Monday, August 4, the Leader of Dacorum Borough Council cllr Symington announced that free parking is set to be reintroduced on the High Street.

Parking will be free for the first 30 minutes and four machines for cash and card payments will be installed, potentially as early as September.

Cllr Symington shared: “This decision forms phase 1 of an ongoing review which includes the impact of the four-hour restriction at the Nap and Langley Hill car parks on the GP surgery and staff working in local businesses, residents in the High Street and businesses that would benefit from longer stays on the High Street.

“Further changes involve a Traffic Regulation Order and form phase 2 of the review. Discussions with all stakeholders remain ongoing whilst longer term solutions are sought.”
