An impressive project to remember Battle of Britain aircrew will be displayed at Bentley Priory Museum (BPM) in Stanmore.
Dom Pound, a self-proclaimed “Battle of Britain enthusiast”, hopes to honour 185 different aircrew through the project, paying tribute to the victims and those who served in the 1940 military campaign which was won by the British forces.
The project involves modelling different aircraft to any scale required by the 26 museums involved.
The aim, according to Dom, is to commemorate the battle’s 85th anniversary with a project that will continue right up to the 100th anniversary.
Speaking to STANMORE&EDGWAREnews, Dom said: “I was determined to do something no one else has done. I want to create a trail of remembrance across the country.”
Bentley Priory was the Headquarters Fighters Command for the RAF during the Battle of Britain and played a pivotal role in the victory.
Despite balancing the project with his full-time job at B&Q, Dom has decided to expand the project from seven different museums – one of which was BPM – to 26. BPM was originally going to house two models, but this has now increased to seven.
Dom said: “I’ve been speaking to family members of some of the aircrew to understand the personal side of things. The project is expanding.”
Dom says the first model, the Spitfire of FO Eric Lock, is complete, and the second will soon be finished. The first pair will be unveiled at BPM on Saturday, September 13.
