If Bushey had a book of memories, its library would fill some of the best-loved pages – and this month a new chapter was added.
As part of Hertfordshire Libraries’ centenary year, Bushey Library held a Tea Party to celebrate its proud legacy as the first library built and opened by the countywide service on September 30, 1936.
The morning of the library’s birthday read like an old feel-good classic – tea poured, pages turned, and laughter echoed throughout the shelves as guests gathered for a community tea party.
Soundtracking the afternoon was local music group Bushey Ukes, who welcomed guests to an afternoon of music, conversation and celebration.
Among the crowd were regular readers including chairman of Hertfordshire County Council councillor Laurence Brass and head of Hertfordshire Libraries Michele Murphy.
Between shared stories and treasured memories, it is clear the library remains a much-loved volume in the town’s story and that the love of reading never goes out of print.
