A woman from Radlett has been jailed after biting a staff member during an incident of theft in Harpenden.
Chloe Briars, of Meadow Avenue, was sentenced to eight weeks’ imprisonment at St Albans Magistrates’ Court on Thursday August 28, regarding two incidents of petty shoplifting.
The first incident had taken place at a local Marks & Spencer, where she stole £30 worth of food before a staff member challenged her.
Briars then proceeded to bite the staff member, causing harm and distress, and chose to leave the store with the unpaid items.
Before the assault, it was claimed that she had also stolen champagne worth £236 from a nearby Waitrose.
Briars was arrested in Luton by the Harpenden Neighbourhood Policing Team, with the help of local council CCTV operators who located her movements.
Briars was also fined £441 and was ordered to pay £200 in compensation to the victim of the assault.
