Watford singer Tiger Jazz, the alter ego of Alexander Williams, impressed the nation with an appearance on Channel 4’s The Piano last month.
Hosted by Claudia Winkleman and featuring judges Mika and Jon Batiste, the show invites gifted amateur musicians to play at train stations across the country.
Speaking to WATFORDnews, Alexander said: “It was an absolute joy to be featured on the show. They never tell you in advance how much you’re going to feature, so there was genuine excitement in the lead up to the broadcast. In the end I had a little party with my extended family and we all watched together! It was really good fun.
“Although my screen time turned out to be quite brief, my musical idol Jon Batiste called me a ‘jazzer’, and Mika said I was ‘pure sunshine’, so I was on cloud nine! I’ll use them as quotes for my blog!”
Alexander found only a few strangers recognised him after the show despite its national appeal. However, his family and friends all knew about his role, so they “sent their congratulations”.
He added: “[The show has] given me a nice bounce of encouragement as I go into the summer performance season. I have lots of Tiger Jazz gigs lined up, plus two performances of my musical Love in Slough at the Watford and Camden fringe festivals, so it’s a nice talking point.”
