TEAM EFFORT: Rickmansworth Community Garden judged as ‘thriving’ in recent assessment

Published on: 31st December 2025   |   By: Kelly Pells   |   Category: Uncategorized

Volunteers at Rickmansworth Community Garden are celebrating after the project was rated as Thriving in a recent assessment.

The garden was created in 2023 by a group of local residents who worked together to turn an unloved area in Rickmansworth’s community orchard into a flourishing community space.

Now, two years later, the project continues to go from strength to strength.

Recently, the garden was assessed through the It’s Your Neighbourhood scheme, administered by Anglia in Bloom with support from the Royal Horticultural Society.

The project was subsequently rated as Thriving and was just two points short of the highest level of Outstanding.

The feedback states: “The Rickmansworth Community Garden is a delightful and thriving place where the community come together in support of one another and they have developed a strong bond with the wider community. The enthusiasm and commitment of the people I met when visiting really shines through.”

Rosi Jordon, chair of Sustainable Three Rivers, told Ricky News: “The assessor was very pleased with what he saw and gave some good suggestions for improvements.

“The assessment is a really nice tribute to all our volunteers, especially as the garden has only been going for two years.”

In the new year, the volunteers will begin working on the suggested areas for development. This includes discussing the feasibility of educational signage with Three Rivers District Council, so that visitors can learn more about the project, as well as improving composting arrangements.

Speaking to Ricky News, lead volunteers Hilary Chambers and Linda Ascroft added: “The garden is a real team effort. The volunteers are all excellent and all eager to learn. It has a really lovely community feel and it’s good to be doing something positive for the environment.”
