A swimming relay team from a Rickmansworth prep school have been named as one of the top eight fastest from a small school in the country.

Following the team’s success at the regional heats in March, the team went up to Sheffield on Friday, June 18 to take part in the English Schools Swimming Association Team Championships for Primary Schools.

Teammates Abi, Elsie, Aisha, Karishma and Ishani took part in what turned out to be an exciting and competitive event, beating their previous best medley relay time by almost four seconds to finish eighth in the A final.

In the freestyle relay B final, the team finished a very respectable third, a phenomenal achievement for the committed and focused young squad.

The school had already experienced some swimming success stories a week earlier, when on Saturday, June 11, the school had their very first entrant into the Independent Association of Prep Schools, young Elsie.

Elsie swam in the 50m butterfly final, beating her own personal best swim and the school record.

Miss Woodcock, headteacher, said: “It is never easy to beat a school record and the fact that, even with a shorter season due to COVID, Elsie has picked up two this year is a phenomenal achievement!” She also congratulated the students on the relay team and their parents.
