Chorleywood Residents’ Association (CRA) is calling for action to be taken over a quagmire at the top of a main road in the village.
Currently, at the top of Old Shire Lane where it connects with Piggy Lane, there is a supersized pothole that regularly fills with water. The damage has been caused by vehicles turning round at the end of the lane.
Due to the size and depth of the hole, it has become difficult for people to traverse whether it has been raining or not.
Speaking to Chorleywood News, Jane Tozer, chair of CRA, said: “The issue is dog walkers’ vans going up to Philipshill Wood many times a day and turning round on the gravelly byway by the wood.
“We didn’t single them out in print in the newsletter, but they’ve undoubtedly increased the traffic.
“Walkers are limited to four dogs on the Common and Chorleywood House Estate. There’s also a limit in the wood, but no one is there to enforce it. On the Common, the rangers monitor it, so the dog walkers have moved to Philipshill Wood instead.”
Jane said that she has raised the issue with Three Rivers District Council (TRDC), with an on-site visit being arranged.
TRDC has been contacted for comment.
The potholes have been there for years, but they could do with some attention. I would suggest that normal cars and vans are not really making the situation significantly worse, but many months of construction HGVs visiting a couple of properties on Old Shire Lane under refurbishment have probably caused significant damage, using the end of the lane to turn around.
