Kingsway Junior School in Garston officially reopened its refurbished swimming pool during a special celebration last month.
Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor attended the event and joined pupils and staff for a whole-school assembly. Also in attendance were local councillors, chair of governors Caroline Loison, and former Watford and England footballer Helen Ward.
The event also celebrated National Sports Week, an annual initiative aiming to encourage physical activity and wellbeing among young people.
Mayor Taylor said: “It was fantastic to visit Kingsway Junior School during their National Sports Week celebrations and reopen their refurbished swimming pool. Having access to high-quality sports facilities like this helps children stay active, build confidence, and develop lifelong skills. It’s great to see local schools leading the way in promoting both wellbeing and sustainability.”
Future plans include the installation of a heat pump and a pool roof to make the swimming pool more environmentally friendly and sustainable.
Headteacher Jo Beale said: “Having our own swimming pool is a fantastic asset. Swimming not only benefits our physical health but also helps our pupils develop perseverance and resilience.
“With phase one of our refurbishment now complete, we are looking ahead to phase two (the installation of a heat pump) and phase three (pool roof), with our main goal being to make the pool more eco-friendly.”
