After decades of fun and thrills, the much-loved Carters Steam Fair made its last-ever visit to the Green in Croxley last month.
Taking place on the weekends of September 10-11 and 17-18, the travelling fair announced earlier this year that 2022 would be its last ever tour, after 45 years of taking vintage attractions to towns and villages across London and the South East.
In a statement, the fair said: “After much consideration and research, we have taken the decision that 2022 will be our final tour.
Having toured our unique range of vintage fairground rides and vehicles around the UK for the last 45 years, it is now time for a new chapter. We are looking for a permanent home and a new owner for the fair.”
The Steam Fair showcases many vintage attractions from the past, including waltzers, swinging steam yachts, a carousel and many more rides.
Many villagers expressed their sadness at the news, taking to social media to do so. One said: “This is very sad news. Been taking my daughter for 14 years and it was starting to become a tradition.”
Another stated: “Your visits have been the highlight of our calendar for 30 years. We will miss you terribly but are so grateful for so many wonderful family outings to your beautiful fair.”
The fair saw many visitors during the two weekends, which culminated in a spectacular fireworks show.
