Work to replace the roof of a historic church roof in Garston is underway and is not expected to be finished until next March. All Saints Church had to be closed to the public after plaster fell from the roof earlier this year but repairs, expected to last for 22 weeks, have now begun. 100 tonnes of scaffolding has been erected and a tin roof has now been put on the church. The roof tiles and ceiling are being completely replaced at a cost of £250,000. The work has been funded by a grant from English Heritage and other organisations, donations from the congregation and a loan from the Diocese. All services are continuing in the parish hall as normal and new vicar Edward Green is being collated at the nearby Francis Combe Academy on December 3. Peter Dawson, church warden, said: “We’d like to thank everyone who helped us get to this position and who has made us stronger for the future.”
