An author from Rickmansworth has written a second children’s book, titled Proud Of Me. Resident Sarah Hagger Holt’s novel is aimed at nine to 13-year-olds, and will be published on Thursday 4 February.
Sarah, who has lived in Rickmansworth since 2003 told RickyNews: “It is a warm-hearted family story about friendship, people trying to work out the right thing to do and muddling through, with a splash of excitement too.”
Proud Of Me, which is set in Watford, has been described as an accessible, child-centred story about self-acceptance and the importance of opening up to those closest to you. Sarah’s inspiration for the novel comes partly from co-writing a non-fiction book exploring LGBTQ+ family situations. Themes of family, friendships, first love, faith, coming out and coming of age run through her novel.
Sarah’s first novel Nothing Ever Happens Here has been nominated for the prestigious Carnegie Medal, a British literary award nominated by librarians, recognising outstanding books for children and young adults.
Sarah said: “What reading gives you is the chance to disappear into another world, with limited things to do in real life, you can transport to another time or place through books. At the moment it’s even more important to not just be within our own four walls.”
Proud Of Me comes out on Thursday 4 February, and can be purchased from any online book store, signed copies will be available online from Chiltern Books in Chorleywood. Sarah’s children’s novels are also stocked in Hertfordshire libraries.
