Businesses in Pinner have hit out at the sharp increase in parking permit costs.
Harrow Council has set an increase of almost 65 per cent for business parking permits in the area. A year’s parking permit has now leapt from about £600 to £1,000, and businesses are unhappy.
Seema Shah, who owns Insight Opticians, said: “It’s ridiculous. Nowhere else in Harrow has had such an increase apart from in Pinner.
“When the renewal form came in, I thought the council had made a mistake. I can’t believe how much the cost has gone up for parking permits.
“I spoke to the council about this and the response I received was that nothing could be done. I don’t believe that’s true. Local businesses are struggling as it is without all this rise in costs.”
Councillor Norman Stevenson, business and employment shadow portfolio holder at Harrow Council, said: “I am totally against this price increase. It doesn’t help Pinner businesses at all and I would like to see it renewed or revised.
“The council is not being business friendly and this issue will damage the local economy. It will definitely affect businesses, especially those which want to employ people locally.
“In the long term, Pinner will suffer unless we reverse this trend.”
PinnerNews approached Harrow Council for a comment but failed to respond at the time of going to print.
