A history lover and author from Rickmansworth has penned his 14th book titled Lost Rickmansworth, Croxley Green and Chorleywood which is set to be published on August 15, 2021.
The book, which includes 160 illustrations of the local area, is written by John Cooper, a retired quantity surveyor turned author and explores the changes that have taken place in the area over 100 years.
Lost Rickmansworth, Croxley Green & Chorleywood presents a portrait of the area’s radical changes, showing not only the industries and buildings that have gone but also the people and street scenes, many popular places of entertainment and much more.
John Cooper told Ricky News: “I found that researching the ‘Lost’ part of the area was both fascinating and absorbing as discovery after discovery came to light with the numerous changes that have taken place over the years.
“I owe a considerable debt of thanks to the Curator of Rickmansworth Museum for the invaluable amount of information and images that helped to make this book possible.
“I feel sure that many readers will remember the Odeon Cinema and the Picture House, both long gone together with many shops and pubs. Despite the many losses, changes and modernisation that have taken place in and around Rickmansworth, Croxley Green and Chorleywood as part of continuing progress, there is still much to see and admire.
“These three lovely, picturesque places can be justifiably proud of their history and to treasure all that still remains for the benefit of future generations.”
