Published on: 3rd July 2023   |   By: News Bulletin   |   Category: Uncategorized

Watford Borough Council has announced the eagerly anticipated return of the free Big Screen outdoor cinema, bringing the magic of movies to the town once again.

Screenings will be shown in Watford town centre from July 24 to 30 and in Woodside Playing Fields from July 31 to August 6.

Visitors can enjoy a diverse selection of films ranging from beloved animated classics like Toy Story, The Jungle Book and The Little Mermaid to iconic adventures such as Back to the Future, Jaws and Top Gun: Maverick.

There will also be heart-warming family favourites like Paddington 2, Matilda and Mary Poppins, and musical biopics such as Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody and Elvis. Film enthusiasts can also indulge in some nostalgia with movies like Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit and Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and experience newer releases including Black Widow, Turning Red, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Fast and Furious 10 and Lightyear.

Food and drinks vendors will be at Woodside Playing Fields, stocking various treats and drinks. For those enjoying the films in the town centre, visitors can enjoy all the high street has to offer for refreshments.

The event is free and booking isn’t required, so all you need to do is turn up with blankets or chairs and chill out. If you’re looking for an easy and environmentally friendly method of travel, consider using Beryl Bikes – with bays conveniently located at both sites – or click your way with ArrivaClick.

Big Screen is part of Watford Borough Council’s Big Events Programme, a series of summer events for residents and non-residents alike.

Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: “The Big Screen, a mainstay in our Big Events programme, continues to captivate residents with its free screenings, providing the perfect way to spend time with family and friends in the summer. With an expanded film line-up this year, we welcome everyone to join us and watch these great films in the town centre and Woodside Playing Fields.”
