KNIFE AMNESTY: Bins to be installed across the county

Published on: 29th March 2026   |   By: News Desk   |   Category: Uncategorized

Permanent knife amnesty bins are being installed in Watford, St Albans and Hemel Hempstead as part of a county-wide crackdown on crime.

Knife bins give people the chance to dispose of knives anonymously and safely.

Bins will be installed at various locations across the Hertfordshire by Friday, April 3, including:

  • Watford: Footpath between Shaftesbury Road and Beechen Grove, WD17 2NJ (What3Words: such.also.slips)
  • St Albans: Bricket Road car park, AL1 3JT- under ramp (What3Words: walks.tender.critic)
  • Dacorum: Queensway car park, Hemel Hempstead, HP1 1HR – next to the public toilet building (What3Words: fortunate.value.teach)

The bin roll-out is an initiative of Hertfordshire Constabulary and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner.

Hertfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner Jonathan Ash-Edwards said: “Every knife removed from our streets, is one less potential victim and that’s what this legacy work is all about.”

Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: “These knife bins are an important step in helping to remove weapons from our streets and prevent harm.

“I am grateful to Hertfordshire Police for their continued work, and we will keep working closely together to tackle crime and address its root causes.”
