With the leaves changing colour and the temperature starting to dip, Rickmansworth Community Garden welcomed the changing of the seasons with a harvest session.
On Sunday, September 28, residents gathered in the garden to pick herbs, harvest fruit and veg, and learn more about gardening throughout the colder months.
The event was led by Sustainable Three Rivers (S3R), a local group encouraging the community to be more sustainable and eco-friendly.
Speaking to RICKYnews, chair of S3R Rosi Jordon said: “It was a lovely event. People picked herbs, including sage, rosemary, basil and oregano, as well as fruit and veg such as rhubarb, tomatoes, apples, pears and quinces.
“We also held a seed workshop with keen horticulturalist and former science teacher Linda. Everyone went away with envelopes full of seeds which they were very excited to sow in their own gardens.
“It’s helped to give people confidence in their gardening and it was great to get some lovely feedback from those who attended.”
S3R runs two sessions a week in the community garden, from 10.30am to 11.30am on Sundays and from 11.30am to 1.30pm on Mondays, and all are welcome to join in.
Rosi added: “We’re really keen for people to come along throughout the autumn and winter. It’s a lovely chance to do a little bit of gardening and meet with people. You’ll always be made to feel welcome and we’re very inclusive. It’s a little sanctuary.”
