For Nabil, it started as a passing thought. As a keen runner, he wondered whether others in Croxley might enjoy exercising together.
On a whim, he shared a post asking if anyone would be interested in joining a social running group – with the promise of a stop afterwards for a well-earned drink.
Within days, the response snowballed. Dozens of residents showed their support, while nearby pubs offered to welcome the group after their runs.
Encouraged by the enthusiasm, Nabil decided to officially set up a social running club.
He told CROXLEYnews: “It is great to see so much interest. It’s all about having fun, meeting local running – or plodding – enthusiasts, and feeling good.”
Keen to keep the group relaxed and inclusive, he added: “This will be open to absolutely everyone. We’ll jog at a pace that suits the whole group, with stops whenever needed. If it becomes a regular thing and we get enough people, we could eventually split into groups based on ability.”
The first Croxley social run will take place on Sunday, March 1, at 3pm outside the Coach and Horses on the Green. Runners will follow a 7km circular route through woodland paths and local trails. It is expected to take around an hour.
Nabil added: “This isn’t about speed. It’s about enjoying our beautiful local surroundings and getting to know one another. We’ll finish with a well-earned drink at the Coach and Horses.”
