Spices, creativity, and a passion for the flavours of his home country of Bangladesh earned Jaber Ahmed the title of Best Curry Chef of the Year at the Currylife Awards on Sunday, October 12.
Croxley can now proudly add this culinary accolade to its list of awards, as Bombay Kitchen, the restaurant Jaber opened in 2022, continues to win hearts and tantalise tastebuds.
It was as a pot washer at House of Spice in Oxford in 2009 where Jaber nurtured his love for Indian cuisine, inspiring his journey from kitchen porter to award-winning chef
Yet it wasn’t just Indian food that captivated him, but a fusion of his Bangladeshi roots with the rich, complex flavours of traditional curry.
At Bombay Kitchen, Jaber has crafted a menu that reflects this unique blend, with standout dishes like the Sylheti lamb chop curry and shatkora bhuna.
Behind the chef is a dedication to using fresh, bold ingredients. Dishes like the Village Special and Bombay Tikka combine locally sourced spices with the fiery kick of naga chili and the zesty tang of fresh shatkora lime, setting his offerings apart from the crowd.
Speaking to CROXLEYnews, Jaber said: “This award is a dream come true. It’s not just mine but it’s for everyone who’s supported us from the start. Without them, none of this would have been possible.”
Looking ahead, Jaber’s focus remains the same: to delight his loyal customers with innovative, mouth-watering dishes.
