EXAM RESULTS: Harrow school’s GCSE results show students ‘continue to excel’

John Lyon School, the independent day school located in Harrow-on-the-Hill, is celebrating another impressive set of public examination results, with GCSE students achieving consistently high grades across a broad range of subjects.

Key figures from this year’s results include:

  • 41 per cent of all grades awarded were Grades 9–8
  • 62 per cent of students achieved Grades 9–7
  • 17 per cent of all grades awarded were Grade 9

John Lyon students sat GCSEs in 19 subjects across the arts, sciences, humanities, and languages, achieving notable outcomes across the curriculum. Founded in 1876, the school provides education for boys and girls aged two to 18, from nursery through to Sixth Form.

Subject highlights include:

  • 52 per cent of grades in Mathematics at Grades 9–8
  • 45 per cent of grades in English Language at Grades 9–8
  • 39 per cent in Biology 38 per cent in Chemistry and 38 per cent in Physics at Grades 9–8
  • 50 per cent of grades in History at Grades 9–8
  • 63 per cent of grades in Geography at Grades 9–8
  • Excellent results also recorded in Modern Foreign Languages and Design & Technology, with 30 per cent of D&T students achieving Grade 9

These results follow the school’s outstanding A Level outcomes announced last week, when Sixth Form students achieved John Lyon’s best performance since 2017, with 43 per cent of grades at A*–A and 86.2 per cent at A*–C.

Head Mrs Rose Hardy said: “Following last week’s commendable A Level outcomes, our pupils’ GCSE grades demonstrate the continued upward trajectory of John Lyon School’s academic strength. These results reflect the commitment and hard work of our pupils, supported by the dedication and expertise of our staff.

“It is particularly pleasing to see such consistent success across a wide range of disciplines – from mathematics and the sciences, to humanities, languages, and the arts. These achievements provide our students with a firm foundation for the next stage of their education in our dedicated Sixth Form, where we are confident they will continue to excel.”
