DO YOU REMEMBER: Mock elections for Chorleywood schoolchildren

Published on: 20th September 2022   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

This month’s historical photo comes from only 31 years ago, featuring teenagers from a local school taking part in youth politics.

This shot features pupils of St Clement Danes School on July 11, 1991, taking part in a mock election at College Green in Westminster, right by the Houses of Parliament.

The vote had been organised by the famous children’s current affairs BBC programme, Newsround, with presenters Juliet Morris and Krishnan Guru-Murthy (now a famous anchor for Channel 4) also in the picture.

They are joined by then Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons, the Right Honourable Harold Walker, who took part in the election as part of a bid to get young people more involved in politics.

Do you have any photographic memories of your school days? Or any other pictures of Chorleywood’s bygone days? If so, send them to and they could feature in the future.
