Hearts raced, brains worked hard, and composure was key as a robotics team from Merchant Taylors’ School in Northwood competed in the VEX V5 Robotics competition last month.
Saturday, October 11, saw 12 pupils from two teams, MTS_MAVER1CKS and MTS_1NNOVA, make the long journey down to Dover to compete.
Both teams were tasked with creating a technical robot to perform tasks to score points.
The competition began on a strong note, with both teams winning their first few matches.
After the eight qualification matches were complete, teams were free to select an alliance partner for the final and MTS_MAVER1CKS paired with the Kingsmen. Unfortunately for MTS_1NNOVA, the competition came to an end due to elimination.
MTS_MAVER1CKS made it through to the final, which was said to be an “extremely close match”.
But it was MTS_MAVER1CKS and Kingsmen who took the crown and became the champions. The win has secured them a place in Nationals.
A spokesperson for Merchant Taylors’ said: “Thank you to the DT Department for making this possible and to Mr Docherty for taking us there on the day.”
