A nine-year-old girl from Chipperfield who started gymnastics less than two years ago has been crowned the 2019 Herts County Champion recently.
Sophia Griffiths, a member at Berkhampsted Gymnastics, won the county competition and finished first in her age group meaning she picked up the prestigious crown.
Speaking to the magazine, Sophia’s mum, Elizabeth said she was super proud of her daughter.
She said: “She makes me super proud. She is very modest so she never made a big show or dance about it, but I am just happy she is doing well is something she loves.
“She works really hard – she trains 11 hours a week and that’s just in the gym, she usually comes home and keeps on practicing. She deserves it.”
Sophia always had an interest in gymnastics and started to teach herself after looking at tutorials on YouTube.
Elizabeth said she was getting better and better so she got decided to get her into her gymnastics club in September 2017.
She added: “She was quite late to start gymnastics, usually kids start when they are three or four but she is so passionate about it which is good to see.”
