A local author has shared her story as she ventures into the children’s book genre for the first time.
Christiane Myers, a primary school teacher who lives in Gerrards Cross, has written three books so far. Her first two were craft books published in 2017 and 2018, called Scandi Christmas and Seasonal Scandi Crafts.
In 2022, Christiane published The Natural Cosy Cottage, which endeavoured to display simple decorating ideas that can be made with things lying around at home. Shirlie Kemp, of Wham! and Pepsi & Shirlie fame, took the photos for the book.
Originally from Canada, Christiane’s love of teaching crafts began in 2008.
Talking to CHALFONTS&GERRARDSCROSSnews, she said: “A friend of mine, whose son passed away from cancer, wanted to find ways in which to raise money for childhood cancer. I thought I could contribute by holding fairs within my home.”
The fairs led to the creation of ‘The Cozy Club’, held weekly in Christiane’s home. The club includes a workshop with materials and refreshments provided, and a homemade lunch. Candles, flowers and antiques are also available to purchase for those who attend the classes.
She said: “The workshop ideas can be quite whimsical as well as practical. They bring a bit of fun and magic into an ordinary day.”
Christiane is now returning to writing once again, this time creating a children’s book inspired by her granddaughters.
She said: “Writing a book takes a lot of time and effort. You don’t realise this until you’re doing it – it brings joy but requires dedication. Now, I have two little granddaughters and my mind is just full of magic and joyful ideas to include in the book.”
