The sound of Morris bells and folk song echoed through the night on Saturday, January 19, as Croxley residents gathered for the most magical tradition of the year.
The village’s annual Wassail once again brought folklore, music, and community spirit to the Green, on what is traditionally known as the Old Twelfth Night.
Croxley Green Parish Council (CGPC) said: “Thank you to everyone who attended the Wassail. It was our busiest one by far, and such a brilliant evening.”
Residents met at the Coach and Horses before processing across the Green to Stone’s Orchard, led by the Phoenix Morris Dancers and local musicians.
There, beside the oldest apple tree and beneath the great oak, the centuries-old ceremony to bless the orchard took place, overseen by Master of Wassail Mark Saxon.
First brought to Croxley in 2013 by Dudley Edmunds, the Wassail blends Herefordshire tradition of celebrating the trees with a personal twist.
The event featured its own Wassail Song by Watford musician Chris Lawley and a cherrywood Wassail Bowl crafted by artisan Stuart King.
