A new development of 192 new homes could be built on green belt land in Abbots Langley.
The 7.31-hectare site on Woodside Road currently contains a series of paddocks used for grazing horses. The proposed development would include 192 homes, 50 per cent of which would be affordable. This includes 46 one-bed flats, 30 two-bed flats, 18 two-bed houses, 51 three-bed houses, 40 four-bed houses, and seven five-bed houses.
The planning statement argues that the site is grey belt, defined as “land in the green belt that… does not strongly contribute” to green belt purposes.
The site was previously identified as a potential site for housing allocation as part of Three Rivers District Council’s Local Plan.
As previously reported in Abbots News, a public survey was held at the end of last year to gather feedback to inform the proposals.
A comment from Abbots Langley Parish Council on the application states: “The existing infrastructure is not adequate to support the proposed level of housing. The roads cannot accommodate the additional strain from a development of this scale. ”
The application was submitted in May 2025 and validated in June 2025.
A Taylor Wimpey spokesperson said: “The submission of our application follows consultation with councillors and the local community.
“Feedback received has been considered and changes have been made to the proposed access point in line with comments we received. In addition, the findings of a Transport Assessment indicate that the proposed development will not materially affect the flow or safety of traffic on local roads.
“We will continue to work with key stakeholders, including Hertfordshire County Council Highways, as the application progresses.”
