Alley Cats Rescue has appealed for volunteers to help foster stray cats in The Chalfonts and Gerrards Cross.
Fourteen years ago, Chalfont St Peter resident Jenni co-founded the charity, which has since saved the lives of more than 800 cats.
Now, they are asking for anyone interested in providing temporary foster care to get in touch. All expenses are paid.
Talking to CHALFONTS&GERRARDSCROSSnews, the team shared their story.
Jenni said: “It’s impossible to ignore the plight of all these cats. We receive between five and 10 phone calls a day, and each case is so desperate. How can anyone ignore that?”
The charity began when co-founder Heather found stray cats at the bottom of her garden. After realising there wasn’t much support in the area, the pair, along with their friend Ray, set up Alley Cats Rescue.
Before being rehomed, all the cats are checked by a vet, neutered, microchipped and vaccinated.
Jenni added: “The pressure on rescues has worsened and we have a constant waiting list of cats needing a place. Social circumstances change, families lose homes, owners die, people move house and abandon their cats outside or even inside an empty house – all these cats need our help, and we hate to say no!”
The team are regularly called to rescue cats from distressing situations, ranging from a bag full of kittens being abandoned in a graveyard, to a box containing cats being thrown into a garden.
