Watford 0–0 Burnley

Watford were held to a goalless draw this weekend as Burnley stood their ground in an edge of your seat match.

Wolves were able to equal the amount of points as the Hornets headed into the tie at Vicarage Road. Three changes in the line-up saw Christian Kabasele, Tom Cleverley and Ken Sema replace Craig Cathcart, Abdoulaye Doucouré and Will Hughes all due to suffering injuries.

Before the match kicked off the fans paid tribute to Watford legend Duncan Welbourne who passed away earlier this week. Welbourne holds the record for playing 280 consecutive Football League games.

The Hornets started well as Gerard Deulofeu and Sama charge towards goal but a great save from Tom Heaton and a goal line clearance from James Tarkowski denied them a goal in the first five minutes.

Watford then went on the back foot with a Burnley header saved by Ben Foster shortly after a Dwight McNeil freekick swings around the wall and brushes the side netting.

In the last seconds before half time Heaton pulls out a spectacular save to stop Troy Deeney who blasts Kiko Femenia’s cross goalwards.

The second half fails to see any meaningful action as both teams struggled to find the back of the net. It wasn’t until extra time that Burnley were controversially denied a goal.

McNeil’s skidding drive was parried by Foster and Wood was in line with last defender Jose Holebas when he followed up to tuck away the loose ball – an assistant’s flag denying him a dramatic winner.
