Woking 0-2 Watford

A professional performance saw Watford FC progress to the fourth round of the FA Cup, beating Woking 0-2 away from home.

The sold out Laithwaite Community Stadium watched as Woking attempted to reach the fourth round for only the second time in their history, but goals from Will Hughes and club captain Troy Deeney spoiled the National League North side’s hopes.

All 11 of Watford’s men were changed over from their 3-3 draw with Bournemouth midweek, and Gracia would’ve been thrilled with the way his second choices dominated possession.

It only took Watford 13 minutes to break the deadlock as Adam Masina played a short corner from the left to midfielder Will Hughes, who smashed a stunning first-time strike into the far corner of the Woking net, leaving the ‘keeper no chance.

Watford kept control of the match, but didn’t put the game to bed until 16 minutes from time, as Deeney scored just three minutes after coming on for Isaac Success.

The captain tapped the ball in from inside the six-yard box after a powerful run from Ken Sema down the left ended in a low driven cross to set up an easy Deeney finish.

The win was Watford’s first in four, and they’ll be hoping to build on it as they face Crystal Palace away in the Premier League on Saturday, January 12.

The fourth round draw will take place tomorrow (January 7) at 9:45pm.
