Alan O’Brien retires

Published on: 1st July 2018   |   By: Jason Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

Wealdstone FC have announced that Alan O’Brien has decided to call it a day on his playing career.

Following an injury hit campaign with the Stones last year, Alan resumed preseason training with the squad this week but unfortunately suffered another injury and decided to speak to manager Bobby Wilkinson.

The highly experienced winger, who has been capped at senior level by Ireland, played first-team Premier League football with Newcastle United and had a long spell in the SPL with Hibernian following his departure from the Magpies; he then moved into the Football League with Swindon Town and Yeovil Town. O’Brien then spent five years at Hungerford Town before a brief stint at Chippenham Town preceded his arrival at Wealdstone.

Wilkinson said: “Alan has had a fantastic career in the game and did really well for the team when he came in last season and worked tremendously hard to get fit. Unfortunately, the injury situation has caught up with him and we spoke after the training sessions this week.

“On behalf of the whole club we thank Alan for his work at Wealdstone and wish him all the very best.”
