People in Bushey are being asked to help The British Red Cross find a new venue for its mobility aids service as the doctor’s surgery it has been based at for the last ten years is closing. Equipment such as wheelchairs and bathing aids have been provided to the community for over 35 years and the charity also needs short-term volunteers to deliver equipment from Croxley to Bushey. For the past decade the volunteer-led service, which is used by up to 60 people each month, has been based at Bushey Health Centre and the Red Cross is struggling to find new premises. In the short term, service users will be referred to Croxley Green or Hemel Hempstead, with volunteer drivers delivering items from the Croxley base. Sarah Nagle, Red Cross Volunteer Coordinator for mobility aids in Harlow, said she hoped a solution could be found as soon as possible. She said: “We’re sad to close this valuable service, but so far we haven’t been able to find a suitable new base in Bushey. If anyone knows of a local venue which might suit us, or would be interested in volunteering a few hours a week as a driver to help deliver mobility aids from Croxley to Bushey residents, I’d love to hear from them.” Picture courtesy of Simon Rawles
