Over a thousand people turned out in Hemel Hempstead town centre in October at a special event for the local born and raised gymnast hero of Team GB at the Rio Games Max Whitlock. The hero of Team GB at Rio, who broke a 116-year-old British record by winning two golds in gymnastics at the same games and was the first Brit since Richard Meade to win two golds on the same day since 1972, went to Nash Mills Primary School when he was starting out as an athlete. Huge crowds welcomed Max to celebrate his medal haul and got a treat as he performed some of his Olympic-winning moves on the Rainbow Stage. Max also took the opportunity to spend plenty of time with his fans, signing hundreds of autographs and taking selfies with members of the crowd. Councillor Andrew Williams, leader of Dacorum Borough Council (DBC), said: “This has been a terrific opportunity for Dacorum to congratulate Max after a hugely successful performance in Rio this summer. We hope this event will inspire our next generation of athletes.” Catch the rest of our extensive feature on Max in the December edition of MyKingsNews, which will be distributed on December 2.
