100 YEARS: Centenary celebration of Radlett’s Phillimore Recreation Ground coming up

Published on: 15th June 2021   |   By: Jake Levison   |   Category: Uncategorized

Aldenham Parish Council (APC) are holding an eventful celebration in Phillimore Recreation Ground in Radlett to commemorate the donation of the Rec to APC by the Phillimore Family 100 years ago.

The land was given to benefit local residents, and APC want to celebrate this wonderful gift on Sunday, September 12.

The day will start at 12noon with a brass band welcoming everyone to the park. At the original inauguration in 1921, there was also a brass band playing, and that band was the ancestor of the present-day brass band.

At 1.30pm, Oliver Dowden CBE, MP for Hertsmere, will open the event and then the first of two films (Lion King) will begin in APC’s open-air cinema.

After the first film, local talents will perform on the stage until approximately 6pm, when the second film (Mamma Mia!) will begin. The films are free – you just need to bring something to sit on.

Throughout the event, there will be a selection of food outlets and a licensed bar.

APC is also planning lots of things for the children to do, including a mini fun fair, face painting, a balloon man, and a treasure trail through Fir Spring Wood – all free.

For car enthusiasts, there is going to be a selection of classic cars on show, and some of APC’s local sports clubs and societies will be represented for you to find out more about what sports are available.

There will also be a sensory tent, helped by Hertsmere Mencap, to give those of our children who need a little quiet and space, somewhere to go and play.
